Torre Faro A2A and Piazza Trento, Milano
Praise for the slow city
Urban regeneration through slow mobility harmoniously connects Milan's past and future and represents a real stitching-up operation in anticipation of a new node for public space and city life.
The Piazza Trento project stands out for its 'T' shape, a symbol of connection between the city centre and the new A2A headquarters. It integrates elements such as the Prada Foundation and the future development of the Porta Romana railway yard. This initiative is part of the urban regeneration plan envisaged by the Milan 2030 TMP, supported by a significant investment by A2A in smart cities.
At the heart of the project is a park characterised by sculptural modelling that embraces a soft green area and slopes gently towards a mineral plaza. On the eastern side, a courtyard with geometric patterns evokes the city's style, while a tree-lined square runs through the entire plot, directly connecting the city with the future development of the railway yard area.
Piazza Trento, currently used mainly as a dog area, will be transformed into a focal point for socialising. The square, sized on the lot of the new A2A headquarters, separates itself from the Viale Isonzo road system and defines itself as a meeting place thanks to the uniform use of materials and the rows of trees delineating the space.
The eastern part will be partly dedicated to dogs with extended and improved spaces with alternating sand and grass paving for optimal usability, while the western part, with seats and fountains, will offer shaded areas for relaxation. The design of the public areas acts as an urban 'muscle', bringing the city's edges closer together and connecting the new Torre Faro to the churchyard of Sant'Andrea. This multi-level intervention integrates the existing volumes into a single landscape, creating a harmonious connection between the different urban fabrics.
In Via Crema, the intervention strengthens the connection with the city, transforming the local road into a pedestrian passage and creating a new square enriched with trees and street furniture. The main axis connects the churchyard of the Church of Sant'Andrea to the new Piazza Trento, with a raised central path to privilege the pedestrian space over the driveway, carving out a calm and protected area.
